Looking for romantic hotels in california with a gorgeous view or a pretty little patio? These photos give you plenty of getaway inspo, from ocean-facing balconies to vineyard scenery and rooms tucked among the trees.
I especially love the terraces where you could sit together and enjoy the view.
You can go for a beachy look or something a little more rustic. Treat these as visual inspiration rather than a verified hotel directory: most properties aren’t identified, so confirm the location and room details before booking.
Romantic getaway settings worth saving
curved walls and ocean views
We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous curved building beside the ocean. I love the glass corner and the golden light across the brown exterior. You can even see the seating inside.
If this is your kind of getaway, look for a room with ocean-facing windows rather than just a coastal address.
a bedroom beside the vines
How pretty is this bedroom? The wide doorway opens onto a patio with two chairs, a small table and a round fire bowl.
Rows of vines stretch out just beyond it.
That little outdoor seating spot is the detail I’d put on your room wish list.
palm-lined dining patio
I am obsessed with this patio. The big umbrellas, pink flowers and tall palms are so pretty together.
There’s even a glimpse of the ocean at the end of the tiled walkway.

Save this one if an outdoor meal is part of your ideal date.
white tables above the beach
If you’re looking for dinner-view inspiration, this one is for you. White tables sit behind a glass railing with the beach directly below and a long pier in the distance.
I’d ask about a table near the railing when making a reservation. That blue water deserves a closer look.
arched windows and little balconies
Don’t want your getaway inspiration to be all pools and beaches? This street-corner building is a lovely change.
I love the arched openings near the roof and the narrow black balcony railings.

The dark awnings and pale exterior are just as pretty as the details up top.
a pool at dusk
This pool setting may just be one of my favorites here. The low white building, turquoise water and tall palms look gorgeous in the fading light.
Two white lounge chairs sit outside the glass doors. Before choosing a similar stay, check whether the pool is shared or private rather than assuming from the photo.
green shutters in the forest
How cute are those pale green shutters? The steep roofs and dark log walls give these cabins such a different look from the coastal settings.
I especially love the narrow path edged with rocks. Save this for a getaway where trees matter more to you than a big pool.
golden light by the shoreline
If you love an ocean view without all the poolside furniture, this scene is for you. Golden light catches the brown building while a curved strip of sand separates the inlet from the waves.
The windows facing that view are the detail I’d want to ask about.
a balcony over the sand
Who wouldn’t want to spend a little time looking out from here? The glass balcony railing leaves the beach and rolling waves in view, with a rounded chair tucked into the corner.
The image labels this as Pacific Edge Hotel in Laguna Beach. If you’re considering it, confirm which room category has this balcony view.
stained glass and blue bedding
This is such a sweet little bedroom. I love the colorful stained-glass panels around the bed, especially beside the pale blue bedding and floral pillows.
The sloping white ceiling makes it look completely different from a plain hotel room. Keep this one for your cottage-style inspiration.
a flower-filled seating nook
Don’t want to go all out with a huge terrace? No problem!
This little seating nook has plenty to love, from the striped pillows to the bright pink flowers spilling over the wall.
A corner sofa and low table would be lovely details to look for in your own getaway search.
striped chairs and city lights
I am obsessed with these black-and-white striped chairs. They sit around a glowing fire bowl with greenery along the terrace and a city skyline beyond.
If you prefer a city break, save this as your evening-date inspiration. I’d leave some time in the itinerary for a terrace like this.
a mountain through the doorway
Okay, that view is gorgeous. The open doorway frames a snow-dusted rock face above the trees, with a small terrace just outside.
You don’t need lots of decorative details when the scenery looks like this. A room with a clearly confirmed mountain view would be my priority here.
arched roof and desert firelight
If you’re looking for something a little different, this desert setting is worth saving. The huge curved roof and glowing glass front are beautiful against the purple evening sky.
Chairs circle an outdoor fire pit in the foreground. Notice that this is a gathering space, not evidence of a private patio.
a grand hillside retreat
This pale hillside building is so pretty against all that green. I love the little roof windows, long balconies and staircase running down the slope.
If you’re drawn to a setting like this, check the access details before booking. Those stairs are a visible part of the picture, not just a decorative extra.
turquoise pool and ocean blue
This is another pool setting, but it has a completely different look from the one above. Patterned loungers line the reddish patio with tall palms and a deep blue ocean beyond.

I especially love the potted trees beside the steps. Save this if you want your poolside inspiration with a coastal backdrop.
a sprawling clifftop escape
If you are looking for a dramatic coastal setting, then this one is for you. There’s so much to take in, from the sprawling building to the green lawns and waves curling below the cliffs.
The aerial view shows the setting beautifully. You’d still want to check the actual outlook from the room you choose.
a house beyond the vineyard
I love this gray house with the rows of vines stretching out in front. The white trim and small peaked details are so cute against the wooded hills.
If vineyard scenery is high on your wish list, use this as inspiration. A photo of vines alone doesn’t confirm tastings or other activities.
a tucked-away spa pool
Want a little spa inspiration for your trip? This narrow pool has tall privacy screens, tiled edges and steps leading into the blue water.

I’d check the spa’s current access rules and whether an overnight stay is available before planning around it. The photo alone doesn’t establish either.
garden chairs and mountain views
Last but definitely not least, we have this gorgeous garden setting. I love the two chairs around the round lattice-patterned table!
The green lawn, striped awning and white balconies are so pretty together.
