Looking for landscaping ideas around house borders that could use a little attention? Purple flowers, rounded shrubs and pretty pebble beds give you plenty to work with.

These pictures include front entrances, narrow side gardens and planting around a backyard seating area.

You can keep things simple or go all out with flowers. Start with a corner you’d love to change, then choose plants suited to your climate and the light it gets.

I especially love the pink grasses and little winding borders!

Landscaping ideas to try around your home

purple flowers and tipped pots

We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous curved border. I love the purple flower spikes and little pink blooms against the white pebbles.

Those brown pots lying on their sides are such a cute extra touch.

Try a few pots between your plants if you want to borrow that detail without changing the whole bed.

white flowers along a curved hedge

If you are looking for landscaping around house entrances with a simple color palette, this one is for you. A clipped green hedge follows the walkway, with white flowers filling the strip beside the lawn.

Keep the flowers lower than the hedge if you want this same lovely layered look.

blue blooms and round shrubs

This flower bed may just be one of my favorites here. I love the blue, lilac and white hydrangea blooms beneath the windows.

The little round shrubs look so cute beside those upright purple flowers.

A narrow band of gray pebbles follows the curve right up to the front steps.

winding bands of white and red

Want something a little different from a flower-filled front yard? This one goes big on color with winding white and red stone bands through black ground cover.

I’d keep the plants scattered like they are here rather than filling every gap. The sweeping curves are the detail worth showing off.

feathery grasses beside the path

How pretty are these pale, feathery seed heads? The grasses sit in a pebble-filled bed beside the straight walkway, with a large rock tucked into the front.

Try repeating a few grass clumps along your own path. Leave room for their full size so you can still walk past them.

pink grasses around the seating area

I am obsessed with these pink and golden grasses. The big rounded clumps sit between white gravel and the seating area, with more planting continuing along the house.

If you want to follow this idea, start with a generous planted curve beside your patio rather than a thin straight row.

curved brick flower beds

The flower lovers are going to love this! Purple blooms, white flower heads and dark-centered orange flowers fill the raised beds.

The curved brick edge is my favorite part.

There’s even a wider brick strip at lawn level. Keep that detail in your inspiration folder if you’re planning a raised border.

tall evergreens and little white flowers

This is such a pretty mix of tall and small plants. Narrow evergreens stand beside the windows while rounded shrubs, purple flowers and little white blooms fill the bed below.

You don’t have to copy every plant to borrow the idea. Try a few taller plants behind a lower flowering border.

leafy side garden

Don’t want your narrow side yard to stay bare? Look at this gorgeous leafy path.

Broad hosta leaves, ferns and dark purple foliage fill the space between the fence and house.

I especially love the pale pink flower plumes. Choose plants suited to your side yard’s actual light before trying a similar mix.

succulent rosettes and big rocks

How cute are those little rosettes beside the larger spiky plants? Big angular rocks give this entrance bed its stepped shape, with smaller pebbles filling the gaps.

If these plants suit your climate, try grouping different rosette sizes rather than choosing all the same size.

climbers and trailing greenery

There’s so much to love in this narrow border. White-flowering climbers reach up the wall grids while silver-colored foliage trails over the raised planter edges.

Try combining upright flowers with a trailing plant if you want a similar look. I’d keep the purple blooms too!

a path lined with purple

I am obsessed with this purple-lined walkway. The pale paving winds between generous groups of flowers, with lighter lilac blooms mixed among the deeper purple spikes.

You can stick to one flower color without making the whole border identical. Follow this picture by mixing different heights and flower shapes.

red leaves and rounded pebbles

This red-leaved tree is just gorgeous beside the tall windows. Low red and green planting fills the space underneath, with large rocks and a rounded pebble border around the outside.

If you’re choosing a tree for a spot near your house, check its mature size first. Give that spreading canopy room.

a narrow border with little lights

Don’t want to go overboard with the planting? No problem!

This narrow bed pairs pale stones with spaced-out green shrubs and grass-like clumps.

The black lights repeat along the wall. I love that little glow against the cream background.

pink and white roses

This is actually one of my favorite simple color combinations. Pale pink and white roses run along the brick wall, with dark mulch underneath and a straight pale border beside the grass.

If you love roses, save this for the flower colors and tidy edging. Plan your spacing around the varieties you choose.

a glowing garden walkway

Who says every garden update needs more plants? This picture keeps the lawn and path simple, with lights lining both sides and bright crisscross patterns across the paving.

If you like that effect, check a fixture’s nighttime light pattern before choosing it. Not every path light will give you this look.

an evergreen beside the window

Looking for a taller plant to include beside your house? This picture shows a narrow evergreen in a dark mulched bed, with someone holding a hose near its base.

It’s a plant-care image rather than a full garden layout. Save it for the upright shape, but get watering and winter-care advice for your specific plant and location.

two levels of planting

This is another raised-bed idea, but it’s a little different from the curved brick border. Two levels of pale block planters run beside the patio, with leafy greenery below and taller flowers above.

I love the little yellow blooms along the top. For a similar tiered garden, you could keep lower-growing plants on the front level.

blue posts and a rope border

How cute is this coastal-style border? Faded blue posts and tan rope run beside the walkway, with blue-green plant clumps, pale pebbles and branching pieces of wood in the bed.

The tiny purple flower spikes are such a pretty detail. Borrow the blue-and-tan colors if you want a smaller nod to this look.

pink plumes and blue grass

Last but definitely not least, we have this gorgeous pink-filled border. I am obsessed with the airy pink grass behind the dark-centered flowers!

The little blue-gray grass clumps along the front are just as pretty. Try a similar color mix with plants suited to your garden, keeping the tallest ones farther back.
