Looking for camping ideas for couples that go beyond pitching a tent? Think sunset snacks, a round of cards or two mugs with a mountain view.
These pictures give you plenty to plan together, from simple campsite dates to more dressed-up glamping setups.
You can keep things simple or go all out. Pick a few favorites for your trip rather than trying to fit everything in. Just check campsite rules and fire restrictions before planning around a campfire.
Camping dates and little details worth saving
truck-bed movie night
We’re starting off strong with this cute truck-bed setup. The striped pillows, patterned blankets and pile of snacks give you plenty of movie-night inspiration.
There’s even a laptop tucked beside the pillows.
Try your own version at a designated campsite with the truck parked for the night. Download a film beforehand so your date doesn’t depend on a signal.
a hammock date for two
How sweet is that little handhold between the hammocks? I love the blue and olive colors against all those green leaves.
Borrow the idea of relaxing together, but skip the high stacked arrangement. Hang your hammocks low and side by side using suitable supports and tree-friendly straps where permitted.
marshmallows at sunset
I am obsessed with the pink and orange sky in this picture. The couple share a red plaid blanket with marshmallows held out toward the lakeside fire.

Bring a few roasting sticks if a campfire is allowed at your site. You don’t need a whole dessert spread to make this a sweet little date.
an evening under the stars
If you love looking up at the night sky, this one is for you. The stars above the dark trees are gorgeous, with an orange tent glowing beside the couple.
Plan a little time for stargazing after your fire is fully extinguished. Keep other lights low when it’s safe so you can enjoy the darkness.
a lakeside snack spot
Don’t want to plan a big activity? No problem! Take inspiration from this purple tent, folding chair and little tables facing the sunset.
Set out a snack for each of you and pull up a second chair. I’d leave the evening open rather than rushing straight into another plan.
flowers and string lights
How gorgeous is this glamping setup? The white pointed tent, low table and flowers look so pretty beneath those strings of lights. I especially love the little cushions around the table.
For a smaller version, try a low picnic table with two cushions and a small flower arrangement. You can borrow the look without bringing every decoration.
a mountain-view photo
This is such a cute photo idea for your trip. The red and blue checked shirts look lovely together without matching exactly.
Choose a safe, level spot with a view and take a picture together. Leave the rocky edges out of your pose, even if that means changing the angle.
a slow tent-side afternoon
Not every camping date needs a full itinerary. This couple are sitting at their open tent beneath a green cover, with a book, mug and snacks on the nearby table.
Pack something to read and give yourselves permission to do very little. That’s the part of this setup I’d keep.
a canoe outing
The misty lake and forest make such a pretty backdrop for this canoe photo. I love the patterned blanket, but this is one to borrow for the outing rather than the seating arrangement.

For your own paddle, wear properly fitted life jackets and use the canoe’s designated seats. Choose conditions that suit both of your experience levels.
a little snack-board date
Who says your campsite snacks have to stay in their packets? These boards hold sliced meats, cheese and fruit, with two glasses beside them and mountains in the background.
Pick a few things you both enjoy and arrange them when you’re ready to eat. Keep perishable ingredients chilled until serving.
bring the dogs along
How adorable are those two dogs peeking out of the rooftop tent? The couple have company for this camping date!
If you want to bring your dogs, choose a pet-friendly site and plan around their needs too. For a rooftop setup, check capacity and safe access rather than assuming every tent will suit your whole crew.

two mugs with a view
I love this view through the open tent door. Two mugs, feet stretched out and layers of mountains ahead.
There isn’t much else you need to add to the picture.
Bring your favorite drinks and take a quiet break together. Keep any stove outside the tent when preparing them.
a sunset picnic blanket
This is another pretty snack-board idea, but the picnic blanket makes it feel a little different. The sliced figs and wedges of cheese are my favorite details.
Try the picnic part at your own site with a view of the evening sky. Keep blankets and food well away from any permitted fire, not close to the flames like this arrangement.

lights above the picnic table
I am obsessed with these rows of glowing bulbs between the trees. The tents and picnic tables look so inviting beneath them.
You could use a shorter set of outdoor-rated lights around your own seating area where campsite rules allow it. There’s no need to light up the whole forest.
cards by lantern light
If you are looking for something simple to bring along, this one is for you. A deck of cards and a lantern turn the picnic table into a little game-night spot.
Choose a two-player game you both know, or learn a new one together before the trip. The cards barely need any room in your bag.
a waterfall lunch break
That waterfall is definitely the star of this picture. Two chairs face the water, with a basket of vegetables between them and food cooking in the foreground.
Borrow the idea with a picnic at a permitted waterfall viewing area. Use established campsites and cooking areas rather than setting up right beside the water.

breakfast in a skillet
How good does this breakfast look? There are browned potato pieces, colorful peppers and an egg in the middle of the skillet.
Plan a breakfast you can make together using a tested camping recipe. One of you can handle the prep while the other gets the approved cooking setup ready.
instant-photo keepsakes
These little printed photos are just too cute. I love the mix of plain and floral borders scattered beside the instant camera.
Bring a camera if you’d like a few physical keepsakes from your trip. Take turns photographing each other, then save a frame for a picture together.
a snowy camping night
The orange tent against the snowy forest is absolutely gorgeous. The bright moon and tall trees make this a very different scene from the lakeside sunsets above.
Save winter camping for a trip you’re properly equipped and prepared for. A fire doesn’t replace cold-weather sleeping gear, so a cabin could be a better starting point if you’re new to snowy overnights.
a forest hot-tub stay
Last but definitely not least, we have this snowy hot-tub scene beneath string lights. I love the tall trees surrounding the deck!
This is more of a glamping-stay idea than a tent-camping setup. If it’s your favorite, look for a stay that explicitly includes a private hot tub.
Use unbreakable drinkware and save alcohol for afterward.
