Cooler weather is quickly approaching, you guys! One of my favorite things about fall, besides the lattes, is claiming the couch for a full night of movies!
Somebody always falls asleep before the credits, lol! Last time we had a whole voting system for the next pick. It got way too competitive.
There’s just something about dimming the lights and pretending the outside world doesn’t exist for a few hours. Who doesn’t love that?
Since gathering season is right around the corner, I’ve rounded up 20 adorable ideas for movie nights, class parties and birthday themes all in one place.
Don’t fret if you’ve never hosted anything bigger than a Tuesday dinner. Most of these use things you probably already own!
From cherry decorations party ideas to fruit display ideas for party tables and a super mario bros party ideas cupcake tower, there’s something here for every kind of party. Under each idea I’ve added the little details you actually want to know, plus a link to the full step-by-step.
WATCH PARTY IDEAS
Cozy Blanket Fort Movie Night
We’re starting off strong with the blanket fort. Sheets draped over chairs, a pile of pillows on the floor and everyone squished in together, that’s the whole formula!
The neighborhood kids beg for this every single time we host, no matter how many other options exist. Something about crawling into a cave just makes the movie hit different, haha! It’s basically a rite of passage at this point.
- The blanket hog problem is real
- Sheets already in the closet work fine
- Fairy lights make it feel extra cozy
Popcorn Bar Snack Station
A popcorn bar turns a snack into an event. Line up bowls of caramel, cheese powder and cinnamon sugar and let people build their own bag!
My neighbors stole this idea last spring. Now everyone expects a topping bar at every gathering. Fair warning, that’s a lot of pressure, lol!
- Snack table showstopper
- Mason jars hold the toppings neatly
- Works for a crowd of any size
Outdoor Backyard Projector Screen
Are you guys seeing these backyard projector setups right now? A white sheet, a cheap projector and some lawn chairs. Suddenly it’s a drive-in!
Bring extra blankets because the grass gets chilly fast once the sun goes down, trust me on that one.
- The August tradition
- A bedsheet works as the screen
- Bug spray is not optional
Movie Ticket Invitation Printable
I print movie ticket invitations on cardstock and hand them out like it’s opening night!
It sets the whole tone before the party even starts, honestly. A tiny detail like this makes people ask questions before they even arrive.
- Sets the scene before it starts
- Free printable templates online
- Cardstock from the craft aisle
Candy Buffet Movie Theme
A candy buffet themed around movie snacks never goes out of style. Gummy worms, sour straws and chocolate malt balls all lined up in jars, how cute is this?
The bowl always empties faster than the popcorn does at our house, every single time!
Kids raid it before the opening credits even finish, no shame in that.
- Gone before the trailers end
- Glass jars from the thrift find
- Scoops make it feel fancy
Cherry Balloon Garland Backdrop
This this decorations party ideas balloon garland backdrop is one of the prettiest things on this list. Red and green balloons clustered together look exactly like a bunch of cherries from a few feet back.
I stood there staring at mine for a solid minute before guests even arrived. Are you guys seeing this right now? It takes way less time than expected!
- Photographs better than expected
- Balloon pump speeds things up
- Command hooks keep the wall clean
Cherry Themed Table Centerpiece
this decorations party ideas do not get much cuter than a centerpiece stacked with real cherries and a few faux ones for height.
Honestly the fruit disappears before dessert even comes out!
- Smells as good as it looks
- Fresh cherries from the market
- Faux stems add height cheaply
Cherry Print Paper Napkins
I always toss little printed napkins covered in cherries onto the table to tie things together.
These are the kind of thing nobody notices until they’re missing, lol! A small stack by the drinks works best.
- The detail people never mention until it’s gone
- Sold in packs of fifty online
- Matches red and white plates well
Classroom Streamer Ceiling Decor
I tape streamers across the classroom ceiling to turn an ordinary Tuesday into an event. Twist two colors together for a candy-cane effect that kids love pointing at.
The custodian probably has opinions about tape residue, haha! Worth it every time though.
- The custodian’s least favorite hour
- Painter’s tape won’t damage tiles
- Two colors twisted looks fuller
Desk Cluster Balloon Arch
Class party decoration ideas get so much easier once I group a small balloon arch over each desk cluster, am I right?
Volunteers usually knock this out in twenty minutes flat before the bell rings!
- Twenty minutes before the bell
- Balloon strip tape from the dollar store
- No helium needed for this one
Bulletin Board Party Banner
I cut letters for a bulletin board banner and pin them up in minutes flat.
This one’s the fastest project on the whole list, honestly. Even a last minute helper can finish it before recess.
- The fastest project on this list
- Precut letters from the craft aisle
- Reusable for the next party too
Watermelon Fruit Basket Carving
This watermelon carving doubles as a this display ideas for party centerpiece that makes people take photos before they even eat. Carve a handle and a scalloped edge, then fill it with the melon balls scooped from the inside!
It sounds intimidating but a butter cutter and a spoon get the job done. No fancy tools required, I promise!
- The centerpiece that also gets eaten
- A butter cutter works fine
- Melon baller from the kitchen drawer
Rainbow Fruit Skewer Platter
this display ideas for party tables do not get much easier than a rainbow skewer platter. Thread grapes, strawberries, pineapple and blueberries in color order and stick them into a foam base.
It looks like way more effort than it actually takes, which is honestly my favorite kind of project, haha!
- Looks like more effort than it takes
- Wooden skewers from the pantry
Tiered Fruit Stand Display
A tiered fruit stand instantly upgrades a boring snack table. Stack cake stands of different heights and pile each one with a different fruit.
It takes up almost no counter space compared to spreading everything flat, which is a win in my book!
Guests always reach for the top tier first for some reason, every single time.
- Guests always go for the top tier
- Thrift store cake stands stack nicely
- Fills up fast with berries
Masha Themed Cake Table
Masha and the bear party ideas start right here with the cake table. I picked a pink tablecloth, forest greenery and a cake shaped like Masha’s house to set the scene!
The bear cutouts standing guard nearby always get the biggest reaction from little guests!
- The reaction is always instant
- Forest greenery from the craft aisle
- Pink tablecloth ties it together
Bear Cave Photo Backdrop
I built this bear cave photo backdrop out of brown paper rocks, some fake moss and a cutout of the bear.
Kids line up for photos in front of it without anyone even asking. Same!
- Nobody has to ask twice for photos
- Fake moss adds texture cheaply
Mini Mason Jar Favors
Mini mason jars filled with candy or bath salts make sweet little favors nobody feels guilty tossing later. Tie a ribbon and a tag and they’re basically done!
- Nobody feels guilty tossing this one out
- Ribbon scraps from the gift wrap drawer
Personalized Goodie Bag Tags
Party favor ideas get so much more personal once I add a simple printed tag on each bag. Add the guest’s name and the date. Suddenly it feels like a keepsake!
It costs almost nothing but people keep them longer than expected, lol!
- Costs pennies, gets kept for years
- Free templates online to print
Build Your Own Pizza Station
Pizza party ideas do not get more fun than letting guests build their own. I lay out dough rounds, sauce and a dozen toppings and let everyone go wild!
The mess is worth it every time. Kids remember this one way more than any store-bought cake. Honestly, who doesn’t love that?
- Kids remember this over the cake
- Premade dough saves an hour
- Toppings already in the fridge work
Mario Mushroom Cupcake Display
Last but definitely not least, we have this this mario bros party ideas favorite. Cupcakes topped with fondant mushrooms in red and white look straight off the game screen!
The tray never survives past the first round of presents, not even close, lol!
- Gone before the presents finish
- Fondant from the craft aisle
- Box mix works just fine here
